This bachelor thesis defines the term "domestic novel" and analyzes how the aspects of this genre are interpreted in the works of Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë and George Eliot. The analysis shows how this genre evolved through time and what the chosen novels Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre and The Mill on the Floss have in common, which aspects are shared and which ones are different. The special focus is given to the role of women in the Victorian Britain, how their position developed and how it changed.
